After Hurricane Ian Disney World and Other Parks closed

Hurricane Ian affected Disney World and other Theme parks across Central Florida announcing changes to their operations.

On Tuesday, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, almost some miles away from where the hurricane was previously expected to make landfall, was the first park to shutter. Later on, Wednesday, followed by Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, and LEGOLAND Florida.

Universal Orlando Resort said in a statement

“Everything revolves around the safety of our guests and team members,”

Busch Gardens

On Tuesday, the Tampa theme park through Twitter

“To ensure the safety of our ambassadors, guests, and animals as Hurricane Ian moves through Florida, Busch Gardens will be closed today, Sept. 27, through Thursday, Sept. 29,”

All canceled tickets would be automatically extended through the end of the year.

Annual pass member tickets expiring on Sept. 30 will be extended through Oct. 16.

Disney World

On Wednesday and Thursday, all four of Disney world’s main theme parks will be closed.

Disney Springs will also be closed Wednesday and likely closed on Thursday as well.

“We are monitoring weather conditions so we can make timely decisions for the safety of our cast and guests, including when it’s safe for the cast to return to the site to prepare for reopening,”

Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is already closed.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park and its Winter Summerland and Fantasia Gardens miniature golf courses will be closed. 

Other resorts will also be closed including

  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
  • Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
  • Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyages beginning canceled. 

Wednesday arriving Guests will need to check in by 3 p.m. On Thursday or before 3 p.m. Friday, There will be No check-ins will be allowed. Guests who would like to reschedule or cancel resort stays impacted by the storm may do so without penalty.

Universal Orlando

On Wednesday and Thursday, Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Universal’s Volcano Bay water park, and CityWalk will be closed. Halloween Horror Nights is also canceled these days nights will be resumed on Friday.

Universal Orlando planning to reopen on Friday if condition permits.

“Our hotels are currently at full capacity and will remain operational as they focus on taking care of our guests.”

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

On Wednesday and Thursday, Kennedy Space Center, not a theme park but a Visitor Complex that is a popular destination for many tourists on Florida’s Space Coast will be closed.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex said

“The safety of our guests and crewmembers is our top priority,”

Tickets for Wednesday or Thursday purchased directly will be refunded. Third parties tickets holder contact those service providers. 

LEGOLAND Florida

On Wednesday and Thursday, LEGOLAND Florida, LEGOLAND Water Park, and Peppa Pig Theme Park will be closed. According to the resort’s website, existing reservations hotel guests will be allowed to stay.

The resort told tickets dated Wednesday will automatically be extended through the end of the year, and vacation stays for canceled dates may be rebooked without penalty. Details of the resort’s policy can be found at legoland.com/hurricane.

SeaWorld Orlando

On Wednesday and Thursday, SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, and Discovery Cove will be closed.

The park said in a statement

“We are taking all necessary precautions – including the implementation of our comprehensive weather preparedness plan – to keep guests, employees and animals safe,”.  

Tickets for Wednesday and Thursday have been extended through the end of the year and annual pass member tickets expiring Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 have been extended through Oct. 16.
